Inside The Wire: Thrill Of Love
With only just over two weeks to go until The Thrill of Love opens for its 2 night run at Liverpool Arts Bar:Studio 3 it’s safe to say we are all absolutely buzzing with excitement to show our audiences this dramatisation of the life of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hung in Britain for the murder of her lover. Looking at the woman behind the crime and what drove her to do what she did.
This is Twisted Nerve Theatre’s second production after their sell out production of Veronicas Room.
The Thrill of Love looks at the story of Ruth Ellis from a female perspective, and how circumstances affected her life and her decisions. It looks at the impact of male dominance and the way in which so many other women of her generation were oppressed and disregarded, but now we have an opportunity to be an empathetic voice for them, and consider how modern society would treat a woman in similar circumstances.
In rehearsals, for our research and development, we have been constantly discussing and critiquing the aims of our production and how we can relay this to our audience. Therefore, we adapted a collaborative approach in the rehearsal room, where everyone offered their own views and ideas. It has been an exciting, informative and sometimes challenging process, but what has come out of it is a project we are all passionate about, and proud to be part of. Everyone has poured so much into The Thrill of Love; it has been amazing and a privilege to work alongside such talented creatives.
I have never been part of a project with such consideration for its impact before, and I can’t wait for our audiences to see what we have been working on!
This play also looks at the audience themselves by holding a mirror up to them to reflect harmful and unsettling masculine behaviours, focusing on the impact this has on women and the danger such behaviours create. Therefore, there is an immersive aspect to the show which we hope the audience will buy into and enjoy.
We have really worked hard to give our audiences an entertaining and thought provoking night at the theatre.
Please note: This performance contains sexual references, loud gunshots and scenes you might find upsetting.
