Theatre Addict: I Hate Charlie Pickles.

We would like to introduce you all to one of our writers for Theatre Addict, Ian Cragg.

I have lived and worked in the Liverpool area all my life and, having taken early retirement, the last few years have allowed me to concentrate more on my writing. Having initially published two novels on Kindle, I have since turned my interest to playwriting and screenwriting, and I am currently adapting my first novel (‘Slybacon’) as a TV screenplay. I have benefited greatly from attending a number of acting and playwriting courses run by Merseyside Academy of Drama, and from joining playwriting groups such as Make It Write and Liverpool Playwrights. Through them I have had a number of pieces performed on the Liverpool fringe.
I am excited to be part of the Theatre Addict event produced by Likeminded Productions and I look forward to working closely with them in the future.

I hate Charlie pickles, by Ian CragG

Directed by Zara Marie Brown.

What if? Two short but powerful words.
What if you’d been forced to spend your whole adult life on stage instead of pursuing your own dreams?  What if the part you played so reluctantly at first, you eventually mastered, delighting audiences over the decades? But what if your comfort zone then became your jailer? What if you began to feel that the character you had played for so long was beginning to kill your very soul?
And what if, in your sixties, you realised that the public no longer loved the character that for almost forty years had been your bread and butter? And what if, as if fed by the public’s disenchantment, you yourself began to despise the very person you had become?
But then, what if you could see a possible way out?  A bright, promising future?  What if there were a shimmering, golden opportunity just out of arm’s reach that maybe, just maybe with one desperate stretch you might be able to grasp. If only there were such an opportunity. If only…
And then, what if everything you had said you wanted was there waiting for you? All you had to do was step out of your comfort zone?
What if?

’I hate Charlie Pickles’ will be performed at Theatre Addict, along with 4 other plays on April 18th 2020.
