Season 2, Episode 9 Preview - Likeminded Podcast

Bob and I had the absolute pleasure of talking to these three creative’s; who run Rubbish Shakespeare Company. Alex MacDonald, Clem Studholme, Lee Hithersay are three talented young men with a great passion for Shakespeare. Speaking with them reminded me of childhood memories and being inspired by the theatre companies that came into my high school. My inspiration for theatre did start in high school, however back then I was nowhere near confident enough to even believe I could stand on stage. I think it’s so important for children to see theatre, I understand now as an adult, so many people still haven’t seen a play, so going into schools when children are there most impressionable that is the time to do it. I know not everyone is a fan of Shakespeare, however I also think if it wasn’t for Shakespeare what would theatre be like? Just have a think on that for a moment.

Alex is the no shoe wearer, cat lover, the inventor of Rubbish Shakespeare Company, Lee is the script editor, books all touring theatre for RSC, who loves being centre of attention, Clem is the one who edits the scripts, books shows for education and deals with all the school’s secretaries! They are so down to earth, the fact that they said “If us four idiots can do this, then you can do it”. The simplicity of props and set for their shows is so inspiring because it just shows that you don’t need a huge set or the most amazing props because it’s the actors that bring the magic to the shows.

Talking about improvisation, rehearsal time, space and everything in between, this episode is a truly wonderful in sight of what it’s like for a creative education company. These three are so full of energy it was incredible vibe to feel (even through zoom), you can tell they definitely bounce of each other on stage!

Of course the pandemic has had an effect on this company like all of us, consequently they have taken things digital. Listen to the episode for more information. Also Bob and I were blown away with their canal project called Stratford to Stratford, they have got so many brilliant stories from touring the country, ending up on Scottish TV, Edinburgh fringe.

Overall if you want to hear lots of laughs, speaking with three talented people and hearing about Bob’s budgies this episode is for you! Enjoy!
