What Happens Next? Special Plug-In: When Things Fall Apart

In the heart of Liverpool's creative scene, Tip Tray Theatre, in collaboration with The Hope Street Theatre, is gearing up for the highly anticipated return of their writing competition, 'What Happens Next?'. This event takes place at The Hope Street Theatre on the 18th, 19th, and 20th of January 2024 and is a celebration of local talent, giving upcoming writers the chance to see their creativity come to life on stage and have their play performed to a sold out audience.

"When Things Fall Apart" is one of the eight plays chosen to be produced as part of this competition. Written by Adam Stevens, it promises to be a powerful performance.

The story of when things fall apart:

Steven, a passionate dancer, who lives with his personal instructor, Dan. The stage is set for a tale of love and upheaval when Steven encounters the enchanting Briony. However, just as the flames of love begin to flicker, strange sensations threaten to unravel Steven's life and career. Dan, the ever-present mentor, should be a pillar of support during these difficult times but he’s deep within in his own romantic pursuits, leaving questions about their shared future hanging in the air.

Stevens shares with us the of his involvement in the 'What Happens Next?' competition.  Steven needed structured feedback on his play, he seized the opportunity presented by a Twitter advertisement to enter the competition. The mere inclusion in the competition already feels like a win for Stevens, as it provides such an excellent platform for his work.

As for the future, Stevens shows us  a desire for the competition to provide clarity on his identity as a writer. The process has already highlighted his strengths, revealing that the deadlines served as a catalyst for his creative process, pushing him to make decisions and reach conclusions within a set timeframe. While the competition journey is ongoing, Adam anticipates the true test of his writing to be during the rehearsals.and he looks forward to seeing the story he’s created come to life of the being performed during this stage of the creative process process.

As the countdown to the competition begins, we eagerly await  of Stevens’ powerful story and can’t wait to see what happens next in the playwright’s career.
