Leighton Miller is at war. Threats of contamination are everywhere. They’re in the water that he drinks, in the food that he refuses to eat and definitely on the hands of the therapist who is allegedly there to help him. At any moment, the cooker could explode and, even though he knows how many times he’s checked the locks, Leighton fears that someone could break through his defences. And Leighton is no stranger to the pain that can be caused by letting people in, and by letting them go. Leighton has experienced devastating loss. As he stands on the ledge contemplating his own mortality, Leighton wonders whether the only way to be safe is not to be here at all.

But then there’s the young woman with the mesmerising laugh, and Arthur, the elderly curmudgeon who needs his help. Despite all his precautions, perhaps there are breakthroughs that even Leighton can’t prepare for. And how can Leighton win the war when the battle is with himself?

ONE MAN’S TALE OF CHILDHOOD TRAUMA AND MENTAL ILLNESS

This is a book that will make everyone pause and reflect. We all deal with adversity and stress in different ways, it isn’t always straight forward for those suffering with mental illness and ritualistic behaviour. Anyone who has lost a much loved parent, will feel the pain of living through illness and the ultimate death of the author’s mother.
This is a heart wrenching and emotional tale, written with open transparency and honesty. A must read for anyone who wants an insight into those living with compulsive behaviours and how it is possible to overcome them, with the help and support of those around them.

BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN. A BOOK ABOUT HOPELESSNESS AND HOPE.

Wow! I didn’t want this to end. It is so beautifully and carefully written. Some very sad parts that had me in tears and feelings of heartbreak were real but some very beautiful parts that fill you with hope, love and happiness.
I didn’t want this book to end. I felt so absorbed reading it that I came away feeling the love and pain. This is a story that centres around one mans journey of mental health. How he find tricks to help him and how he experiences the greatest loss being his mother. How he loses all hope and zest for life to the point of wanting to end it and how he finds hope, love and zest for life. This is a beautiful read for anyone who likes to connect with the writer. I certainly did and recommend this to everyone. Beautiful work.
