When I got the call from Caitlin saying we have Falling Doors as a guest, I was absolutely made up. I’d met  Sarah briefly before lockdown. At the time, we were gearing up to work together on the project, Miep. I’ve never actually told Sarah or Nancy, but Falling Doors has had a massive influence on Likeminded Productions over the time we’ve been running.

I’ve been a big fan of Falling Doors. The first play I went to see of theirs was Dennis Kellys ‘Taking care of baby’ at The Casa on Hope Street. The play was part of the Liverpool Fringe Festival at the time. Once I’d seen that play, I knew we had to do major work moving forward. This is what I like - especially in Theatre, the competitive spirit.  The set was very effective, along with the costumes & props - even down to the lighting. The actors were also incredible, the chemistry was great and I learnt so much from that play which set the bar for us to work towards.

Let’s fast forward to ‘The Nether’, a year later at Hope Street Theatre. Wow, just incredible. The progression from the previous play I’d seen by them was on the next level. At the time, Nancy came onboard as producer and you could see clearly the positive impact she’d had. Falling Doors, reached a new level. It was great - the lighting by Ink told a story of its own and Christopher McCourts set design (a future guest we have on the podcast) complimented the whole so well. Even the promotion, was brilliantly captured in pictures by Andrew Ab.

This year with, ‘There’s a dead body in my baby’s sandpit’, Myself, Caitlin and the team was left gobsmacked and very motivated moving forward with the projects we had planned. It gave us a boost of what we needed and learnt again from another production from this amazing company that Sarah and Nancy have created.

Listening to this episode was a pleasure. It was great to hear how Sarah and Nancy started their creative journey and finally linking up to form this brand new theatre company that we know and love. Their love and passion for theatre is clearly visible when you listen to them throughout episode two. I love how They both bounce off of each other and you can see why they work together so effectively.

I enjoyed listening to the origins of these two creatives of the how and why, all the way to the origin of the name, Falling Doors. Sarah and Nancy hold valuable knowledge and experience about producing theatre. I’ve been to three productions of Falling Doors and with everyone of them, I’ve personally learnt from and tried to incorporate in our productions. To have them sharing their stories on the podcast to our listeners is so valuable and will help not only myself and the team but hopefully help the upcoming creatives looking to delve in the beautiful world of live theatre.

Episode Two will be available on all major platforms September 20th. You won’t be disappointed.
