Episode 1 of Opening Nights REVEALED! (Again)
The Likeminded Podcast begins our new Opening Nights venture exploring the preparations for Trisha Duffy’s play – Broken Biscuits which will form part of the Liverpool Theatre Festival this September. Trisha came on the podcast back in May and told us of her journey from being a curious mum taking a writing course and then joining the Lantern Writers where she was thrust into putting on her first play – Broken Biscuits.
Margaret Connell - Director of 'Broken Biscuits'
Trisha Duffy - Writer of 'Broken Biscuits’
The play found success and did the rounds both at Liverpool theatres and at the Edinburgh Fringe. The story is a touching and emotional tour de force. Rita and Maggie were neighbours and friends until their sons join the army and a devastating tragedy soon shatters their lives and friendship.
Left:: Leanne Martin as Rita, Middle: Catherine Rice as Maggie, Right: Louise Garcia as Molly.
Will their friendship survive? How can people live with guilt and loss?
Opening Nights comprises two short podcast episodes, one talking with the writer and director and the other with the actors during rehearsal. Trisha Duffy is great at showcasing women’s voices both in the monologue and dialogue formats and she will be joined by her inspirational mentor and director Margaret Connell, so there are no doubts that this will be a quality experience.
The cast for the production is Catherine Rice, Leanne Martin and Louise Garcia. Talking of casts, we will be introducing two new co-hosts for this exciting venture so please follow this journey.
The Opening Nights podcast will give behind the scenes insight into rehearsals and preparations for this exciting event. Episode 1 available on 3rd September.
