A Night with Jean-Paul: Coming to Hope Street!

Liverpool, get ready for a night of laughter as "A Night with Jean-Paul," an exciting new comedy play penned by the talented Rachel Howard, comes to the stage at Hope Street Theatre on September 27th and 28th, 2023. "A Night with Jean-Paul" introduces us to four characters who hold art and creativity in high regard, judging it by its popularity, relevance, and awards. After a disheartening night at the Jean-Paul Baptiste Theatre Awards, struggling playwright Redmund and his toxic actress wife Sylvia return home empty-handed. With the drinks flowing and insults flying, Sylvia invites Bert Adams, a national treasure and winner of Best Playwright, for a nightcap. In retaliation, Redmund invites Cressida Philips, winner of Best Actress and Sylvia's arch-enemy. The evening takes an unexpected turn, setting the stage for a comedy of epic proportions.

Actor and playwright Rachel Howard had this to say about the production, "I never planned to write a play like this, but once I started with the first scene, I began to enjoy these characters in their home and wanted to stay with them to find out what happens next. I hope audiences will leave this play with an understanding of what it means to be an artist and how difficult the industry is, but most importantly, to appreciate art and not judge it by a lack of merit."

The comedy is brought to life by Rachel Howard's witty writing and directed by Zara Marie Brown. The local cast, which includes Deborah Elizabeth, Conor Burns, Pete Gibson, and Rachel Howard herself, adds a touch of authenticity and charm to the characters.
