Liverpool Author Shaun Millea's Heartfelt Tale of Hillsborough is back for a local Tour

Shaun Millea, children’s author and advocate, brings his poignant story of the Hillsborough disaster to life in an emotionally charged theatrical production. Based on his acclaimed children's book, “Hillsborough: When Will Dad Be Home?”  Which was adapted by Shaun and the creative team to a 2 act play now called “Hillsborough: One Boy’s Story of a Tragedy”. This play offers a gripping portrayal of resilience and remembrance. After a successful run of the production at the capstone theatre for the 35th anniversary. They are back this July for a small tour of local Liverpool theatres, The Lighthouse and Theatre Porto.

Millea's journey began in 2019 with the release of his book, aimed at educating children across the UK about the tragic events of Hillsborough. Now, in collaboration with a dedicated creative team, Millea's narrative takes the stage at the Capstone Theatre on April 11th and 12th, offering audiences an immersive experience of the harrowing aftermath of the fateful day in 1989.

Produced by Kevin Roach and directed by Zara Marie Brown, the production promises to be an evening of thought-provoking storytelling. Through the eyes of the fictional character Frankie and his family, audiences will witness a touching exploration of grief, acceptance, and hope.

"I've always believed in the power of storytelling to evoke empathy and understanding," says Millea. "Through this play, we aim to ensure that the memory of Hillsborough lives on and that it’s lessons are never forgotten."

Featuring a talented cast of local Liverpool actors including, Joel Cousins, Lucy Warering, Mike Sanders, Deborah Elizabeth, Don Danks, Leah Cloud, and Kevin Cubbin, the production resonates with authenticity and heart.

Director Zara Marie Brown shares her enthusiasm for the project “We were overwhelmed with the audience’s response to our first run of this play. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house. People were coming up to us sharing their own stories of Hillsborough and stories of grief of losing someone dear to them. Hillsborough is a pivotal moment in Liverpool's history, and we are honoured to bring this story back to the stage, sharper and better than ever. It's more than a tragic event; it's about the strength of family and community in the face of adversity."

Kevin Cubbin, one of the cast members playing Terry in the production has this to say “Being part of this experience was such an emotional and amazing rollercoaster,  to bring the words of the people who were involved in Hillsborough to life. To share their stories was something I never thought I'd do and I am honoured to be able to do that for them again. It's an emotional and impactful performance, a story that everyone needs to see. A story of a tragedy that affected a city"

Don't miss this unforgettable, theatrical experience. Join us at the Lighthouse Theatre or Theatre Porto this July for an evening of reflection, emotion, and solidarity.
