A Night Out At: In The Sun
Tired Horse Productions' "IN The SUN" delivered an exhilarating night of theatre showcasing the diverse talents of independent artists. The evening unfolded with five distinct shows, each offering a unique perspective on the human experience.
SIDEWAYS SERPENTS REIGNED (SHOW 1) by OFF TOPIC THEATRE:
Mattie Jenkins and Clayton Travis skillfully navigated the haunting landscape of inner demons, presenting a raw and introspective journey. The show's soundscapes and movement created a powerful opening, portraying the struggle against one's darkest desires with honesty and humanity.
EXPLORING (SHOW 2) by ZUZA KURKO:
Zuza Kurko's performance was a hypnotic blend of experimental physical theatre, dance, and spoken scenes. The innovative use of space, coupled with Kurko's captivating presence, painted a vivid world on stage. The intimate atmosphere intensified the personal exploration of vulnerability, belonging, and the longing for home.
TWO FEET IN THE GRAVE (SHOW 3) by RACHEL FLANAGAN:
Rachel Flanagan's "Two Feet in the Grave" offered a sharp and tongue-in-cheek narrative, reminiscent of Neil Gaiman's storytelling. Kit LeFroy and Alex Jagger's dynamic chemistry as angel and demon added a fiery and engaging dimension. The play fearlessly tackled socio-economic, religious, and political themes, keeping the audience entertained with its clever commentary.
KILL THE JESTER (SHOW 4) by OGNIMAS PRODUCTIONS:
"Kill the Jester" skillfully blended stand-up comedy with harrowing realizations, creating a balance between humor and depth. Sam Bolton's deadpan wit and the cast's ability to navigate between honesty and hilarity at breakneck speed made this Tudor-era comedy both gross and irreverently delightful.
MALION (SHOW 5) by TIRED HORSE PRODUCTIONS:
"Malion," a modern retelling of the Pygmalion and Galatea myth, unfolded with cruel yet boisterous performances by Patrick John and Callum Jones. Noah Marescaux portrayed the tortured artist well, and Joseph Meardon's script explored the complexities of love and lust. Sarah Elise-France's portrayal of Galatea was a highlight, displaying vulnerability and later bursting to life with fire and passion.
Tired Horse Productions curated an excellent display of young independent talent, providing an empowering platform for artists to shine. The evening showcased a rich tapestry of themes, emotions, and styles. Audiences should eagerly anticipate Tired Horse Productions' future endeavors, as this night of unpredictable brilliance sets a high standard for the company's creative endeavors. Hats off to Meardon's company for fostering such a vibrant and empowering platform for emerging talent.
